Kante,Jorginho and De Bruyne were selected by a jury composed of 24 coaches of the national teams that participated at Euro 2020, together with the 80 coaches of the clubs which played in the 2020/21 group stages of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

55 journalists from each of UEFA’s member associations, selected by the European Sports Media, were also part of the jury.

The coaches and journalists were asked to select a shortlist of three players by allocating respectively five points, three points and one point to their preferred choices with the outcome being decided by the total number of points for a player. Coaches were forbidden to vote for players from their own team.

Kante and Jorginho’s phenomenal pairing in the middle of the park helped the Blues to win their second ever Champions League trophy in May, beating De Bruyne’s City 1-0 in Porto thanks to a goal from Kai Havertz.

Jorginho then followed up that success by playing a key role in Italy’s victory at Euro 2020, before the duo were at it again in Chelsea colours to help them lift the Super Cup over Unai Emery’s Villarreal last week.

And to top off such excellent news for Chelsea fans, Thomas Tuchel was also nominated for the UEFA Coach of the Year alongside Pep Guardiola and Roberto Mancini.

The top ten nominations for UEFA Player of the Year: Kevin De Bruyne, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Kylian Mbappe, Raheem Sterling, Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland.
