Olivier Giroud believes Thomas Tuchel brought ‘serenity and confidence’ back to the Chelsea team after he took over as manager from Frank Lampard last year.
Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge midway through last season with Chelsea underperforming in ninth place after Lampard struggled during his second campaign with the club he had so much success with as a player.
But in just six months, the German boss guided the Blues to a top-four finish before helping them win the Champions League trophy in the same year.
Giroud, who left the west London club for Italian giants AC Milan during the summer transfer window, thinks Tuchel’s subtle changes when he arrived made all the difference.
‘Tuchel brought serenity and confidence to the team again by being successful,’ Giroud told Tribal Football.
‘It is always easier when you win games, so we built that confidence step by step, and with the philosophy of his game playing a 3-4-3, with the great players we had, his ideas fit perfectly to the team.
‘I think we finished strong and solid, and in the end we qualified fourth and won the Champions League so what more can you say.’
After adding Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez to his already star-studded squad in the summer, Tuchel has continued his fine work this season with Chelsea sitting at the top of the Premier League table after seven games.
Chelsea will look to continue their fine start to the season when they travel to west London rivals Brentford on Saturday.
