The Spanish international has been out of action since hobbling off during the home win over Crystal Palace in September with a calf issue but was expected to be fit again after the international break.
However, speaking to the official Liverpool FC website, manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that whilst he does expect to have Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota available for selection, he is not anticipating having Thiago in his squad for the trip to Vicarage Road.
“So it looks really like Trent and Diogo will be fine, they will train with us tomorrow completely normal, that’s the plan. Thiago needs probably a little bit longer, [he] was not in team training yet, that’s always not a good sign for starting the next game.”
With Fabinho looking extremely unlikely to be available given his international exploits and with Harvey Elliott still out with his long-term ankle injury, Klopp would surely have loved to have a well-rested, fresh Thiago available to face Watford but that will no longer be the case.
Therefore, it seems almost certain that Jordan Henderson will play in the number six role, and that he’ll be joined in midfield by any two of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones.
Any combination of those players, alongside Henderson, should still have enough quality to beat Watford, but having a player like Thiago available for what looks like it could be a very tough game would have been a huge boost for Liverpool but alas, they’ll need to get the job done without him.
