Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers Apparently In Contention To Take Over From Pep Guardiola At The Etihad

A few attentive Chelsea supporters on social media spotted an opportunity to completely overthrow Manchester City following a stunning claim.

Guardiola’s City contract runs out in 18 months and the general conclusion is that he will not extend his stay any further.

Next year signals the seventh of the Spaniard’s silverware-laden rein, far and away the longest a manager has lasted in the blue half of Manchester since Joe Mercer in the 1960s/70s.

City must select wisely and carefully for the individual they want to succeed their golden leader.

Rodgers is supposedly on the shortlist, having previously been wanted on the club’s coaching staff back in 2009.

Permitted the Foxes chief takes over from Guardiola, the mission of maintaining his predecessor’s levels will be an almost impossible one.

Chelsea fans certainly yearned for the move to happen, purely for selfish reasons.

They envisaged a free run at the Premier League crown with Guardiola gone and Rodgers in charge of City.

Nah man we need to keep Tuchel long term no matter what, imagine the dominance we’ll have in a league without Klopp and Pep https://t.co/c5n0DpqXGg

If Chelsea want to dominate England especially now Pep and Klopp are leaving soon, it’s time to completely back Tuchel and have stability then build a long term plan with him. https://t.co/1YEqqFkBEg

Of course, Chelsea’s chances of English domination will drastically improve once Guardiola is out of the picture.

For so long, the league has belonged to City or Liverpool, with the Blues unable to make a dent on their dominance.

But Thomas Tuchel has made very strong strides towards shifting the power back to Stamford Bridge.

The ex-Chelsea coach has done an admirable job at Leicester, yet his track record of failing to qualify for the Champions League remains a concern.

Added to that, the fact he literally let slip the Premier League trophy whilst leading Liverpool back in 2013/14 could prove to be a worry.

There will almost certainly be a managerial merry-go-round by the time Pep’s stop-clock runs down its digits.

For all we know, Rodgers might be the new Newcastle United coach, as they look to reshuffle their furniture.

Thomas Tuchel could well be standing in the job employment line.

Chelsea’s record of renewing coaches is certainly consistent, no matter the wealth of success orchestrated.

What can be predicted pretty comfortably is that the race for top-flight supremacy this season will be a close one.

Guardiola, Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp all locking horns, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer snapping at the heels.
