Jamie Carragher Suggested Chelsea Star Reece James Is Much Quicker Than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold

James and Alexander-Arnold, who play together with England, are key figures within their respective club teams.

Chelsea’s right wing-back James, 21, appears to be playing some of his best ever football. The £58,000-a-week wide man has been Chelsea’s main attacking force this season, scoring five goals and making five assists in 14 appearances.

Meanwhile, Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold continues to be vital at Anfield. He’s got a brilliant return of nine assists in 13 games this campaign.

Carragher, who’s been discussing the full-back rivals, does admit that the Chelsea man has a significant edge over his Liverpool counterpart when it comes to speed.

“I think Reece James is a great full-back or a great wing-back… When you look at Reece James, you think the power, the pace, the quality, the finish,” Carragher said.

He added: “He’s (Alexander-Arnold) certainly not as quick as Reece James.”

England RB debate

It feels like the James vs Alexander-Arnold debate is one that could roll on for the next decade, so it’s going to be intriguing to see how they both develop.

Manchester City’s Kyle Walker is in possession of the shirt at right-back for England, but surely one of the aforementioned will be his successor.

James looks a much closer version to Walker, albeit the Chelsea ace is much strong going forward.

James should let his England career take care of itself and focus on the Blues.

Christian Pulisic has said it “wouldn’t surprise him” if James finished as Chelsea’s top scorer this season, which goes to show how impressive he’s been as an attacking threat.

Thomas Tuchel may only have a handful of individuals that are nailed on in his best XI. For example, Antonio Rudiger has to play as the left-sided centre-back when fit. James is now earning the right to be on that list, too.
