Injury Expert Shares ‘Season-Ending’ Chilwell Prediction After Chelsea Latest

Chelsea may lose Ben Chilwell for the rest of the season after his anterior cruciate ligament injury – but the next six weeks will be decisive.

So says injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Chilwell picked up a knee injury in Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League last Tuesday (23 November).

Thomas Tuchel confirmed to Sky Sports last Friday (26 November) that he had a “partial injury of his ACL” and the next “six weeks will tell the story”.

The 24-year-old left-backs has missed the Blues’ last two matches against Man United and Watford respectively.

And Dinnery claims that his recovery time could range from anywhere between two to nine months.

“It’s probably a grade one, and those typically respond quite well to conservative treatment.

“He will be sent for further imaging after this four to six-week period to see how he is progressing.

“The club wants to see a distinct move in the right direction. If that progress is sufficient, the opportunity is to continue that conservative treatment.

“That would be with a view to returning possibly in two to three months.

“If after this six-week period the knee hasn’t responded as hoped, it could be that he will need surgery.

“That will almost certainly be season-ending for Ben Chilwell.“
