The veteran Brazilian defender appeared in 48 games for Chelsea this season, including the Premier League final day 2-1 victory over Watford at home.
Despite his age, he has been one of the Blues manager Thomas Tuchel’s most consistent and trusted players.
Silva has now made some eye-catching comments implying that he would be willing to extend his contract at the Bridge once more.
The world-class defender signed a contract extension with the club in January, keeping him in west London until the end of next season.
He’s now completed two outstanding seasons with Chelsea and is contracted for next season, but he hasn’t ruled out a fourth.
“This is strange. “You come for one season and you don’t know what’s going to happen because people look at you and maybe have a few doubts because of your age,” Silva said before the Watford game, according to Goal.
“I was delighted to accept a second season, and now a third – and who knows, maybe even a fourth!” I’m happy here, my family is happy, and that helps a lot because when I leave the pitch, everything can only go well. In London, I’m feeling good. “I feel at ease.”
It already appears that the Blues will rely heavily on Silva again next season, though they must be more cautious with his minutes as he ages. Tuchel recently admitted that even Silva will succumb to the effects of aging.
The Blues appear to be counting on him to be a dependable figure at the back while the new defense is restructured without the departure of Antonio Rudiger.
If Chelsea decides to invest in a young player like loanee Levi Colwill, Silva’s presence and guidance will be invaluable.
