Chelsea Player Ratings vs Leicester: N’Golo Kante Superb, Jorginho Class, Christian Pulisic Impact

Edouard Mendy

Had absolutely nothing to do in the first half at all. Saved well from Amartey in the second half. Booked for timewasting with 65 minutes on the clock. Probably a more quiet afternoon than he would have expected. 7

Reece James

Barely had any defending to do in the first half and kept up his brilliant form by assisting Kante’s goal, spinning away from Soumare and setting the Frenchman clear. Picked his moments to attack very well and was a constant threat. Eight goal involvements so far this season and is in the form of his life. 9

Trevoh Chalobah

Recalled to the side after missing out against Burnley. Clever step up caught Lookman offside to rule out an equaliser and looked incredibly comfortable throughout. Great run and pass released Ziyech for Chelsea’s third. Looks more and more competent at this level with each passing game. 9

Thiago Silva

Kept Jamie Vardy very quiet in the first half. Leicester brought on Kelechi Iheanacho at half time. Some of his passing was exquisite and put in a very dominant performance. 9

Antonio Rudiger

Outstanding challenge denied a tap-in for Soumare. Scored the opener on 14 minutes with a fine header from Chilwell’s corner to put the visitors ahead. Didn’t have much defending to do but what he did, he did very well indeed and kept yet another clean sheet. 9

Ben Chilwell

Should have scored against his former club inside five minutes, but did bag an assist as his corner was headed home by Rudiger ten minutes later. Forced a fine save from Schmeichel early in the second half. Little work defensively to do. 8

Jorginho

Glorious pass released Chilwell, who should have scored early on. Ticked Chelsea over beautifully in the first half. Pushed higher in the second period to press Leicester in after their formation change and the introduction of Iheanacho. Worrying that he appeared to pick up an injury in the second half and was replaced by Loftus-Cheek. 8

N’Golo Kante

His energy in the first half really got Chelsea on the front foot early on and it didn’t relent as he was a menace in attack, scoring Chelsea’s second with a brilliant finish on his weaker foot from 20 yards. Far more disciplined after half time as Chelsea protected their advantage. Simply world class. 9

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Didn’t see an awful lot of the ball in the early going and Leicester resorted to trying to kick him off the pitch when he did have it. Played the full 90 and did alright but didn’t really stand out in what was a very good Chelsea performance. 7

Mason Mount

Back in the starting eleven after his dental surgery but struggled to get his teeth into game throughout and didn’t match the level of his teammates. Hauled off after an ineffective 62 minutes. 6

Kai Havertz

Some of his one-touch passing and movement was exceptional in the first 30 minutes as Chelsea’s dominated. Should have put Hudson-Odoi in for a third Blues goal in the first half. Led the line well and perhaps a surprise Tuchel replaced him with Pulisic just past the hour. 7

Substitutes

Hakim Ziyech (for Mount, 62′)

Very clever pass almost combined with Pulisic for a third then did find the USMNT star for a goal after twisting Soyuncu inside out. Big impact. 7

Christian Pulisic (for Havertz, 62′)

Played as the central striker having replaced Havertz. Missed one decent chance but scored another. Just the impact Tuchel will have wanted. 7

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (for Jorginho, 77′) No rating
