Chelsea To Make Last-Ditch Attempt To Keep Player Ahead Of Expected Offers From Real Madrid And PSG

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is demanding a contract worth €12million (£10.1m) a year with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain made an attempt to convince the player to join them on a free transfer, according to Spanish publication AS.

In a few days, the 28-year-old, whose contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season, will legally be able to speak to other clubs over a free transfer move.

AS claims that Rudiger’s representatives have received several approaches from European clubs, including from Real Madrid, despite the club’s denying the operation and insisting they are happy with the centre-backs they already have.

The report also mentioned that, as it stands, Rudiger is not the first name on Real Madrid’s transfer wish list, with PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and, potentially, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland ahead of him.

Considering Rudiger’s reported wage demands, signing him will have a huge financial impact on any club, even for Real Madrid.

However, the current La Liga leaders have shown that they are capable of offering a huge salary to free agents.

They signed David Alaba on a free transfer last summer and the defender reportedly earns €11million-a-year at Santiago Bernabeu.

According to AS, Real Madrid could face competition from PSG, Bayern Munich, and many other top European clubs for the Germany international’s signature.

PSG, in particular, have reportedly met with Rudiger’s agent and half-brother, Sahr Senessie, to confirm that they will make an offer once they are legally allowed to.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are said to be reluctant to meet Rudiger’s demands, fearing it could “create a dangerous precedent” at the club.

The report added that Chelsea previously offered Rudiger a new deal worth €8m (£6.7m) a year which is significantly below the €12m (£10.1m) annual salary (roughly £194,000-a-week) Rudiger is looking for.

Blues director Marina Granovskaia is reportedly still planning to make another offer as a last-ditch effort to keep the defender but AS believes it is unlikely they will reach the figures Rudiger wants.
