Chelsea Hopes To Make Its First Defensive Signing “This Week

The Evening Standard has recently hired Nizaar Kinsella, which means they are now getting some good Chelsea scoops.

According to today’s transfer window information, Chelsea “hope to complete the signing of one of their two main defensive targets this week.”

Even though it is only Tuesday, that seems like a stretch to us.

As things stand, with Jules Kounde reportedly on the sidelines, the Blues’ top targets are Nathan Ake and Matthijs De Ligt.

Both of those players are buyable, but this week?

The De Ligt deal will be very expensive, and Bayern Munich is interested. If it happens, it’s unlikely to happen this week.

Although Ake is not a big-money player, Manchester City appears to want to replace him before he leaves. This could significantly slow things down.

It’s not impossible, but either move this week seems ambitious to us. The weeks are flying by, and Chelsea is under intense pressure to close deals, but in both of these cases, the other party may well put the brakes on to get the deal they want.
