Chelsea Handed Double Injury Blow Ahead Of Premier League Fixture Versus Manchester United

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell could be ruled out of playing against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Carrick won his first game in charge as caretaker manager of United away at Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday and Carrick is currently set to take the Reds to Stamford Bridge to take on Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea this weekend.

United are 12 points behind Chelsea after making a miserable start to the new campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The London club have enjoyed excellent results since Tuchel’s arrival last term and they sit at the top of the Premier League.

Kante has played an important role in Tuchel’s revolution, though, and he sustained a ‘twisted knee’ in the first half of Chelsea’s dominant 4-0 win over Juventus in midweek, but the French midfielder wasn’t the only injury concern from that game.

While left-back Chilwell struggled for game time at the start of the season, he’s now earned a regular place in Chelsea’s starting XI, however, he could be absent in the Blues’ line-up versus United on Sunday as he limped off the pitch on Tuesday night.

“He [Chilwell] was in a lot of pain, now he feels a bit better,” Tuchel said.

“He has an examination tomorrow [Wednesday] to be more precise. Hopefully we get away, fingers crossed, with not too bad news. With N’Golo, it’s a bit the same. He got stronger and stronger in the first half but twisted his knee a little bit.”

Chelsea have not won any of their last seven Premier League games against United, stretching back to 2017.
