Some Chelsea Fans Plead Tuchel To Pick 25-Year-Old For The First Time Game Against Brighton

A portion of Chelsea supporters have surprisingly asked Thomas Tuchel to start Kenedy against Brighton & Hove Albion later today.

Some fans might not even be aware the Brazilian is back training at Cobham, but back training at Cobham the Brazilian certainly is.

What is happening with Kenedy?

His loan spell with Flamengo was cut short, in response to the shortage of wing-backs available to Thomas Tuchel.

With Reece James and Ben Chilwell out for the foreseeable future, Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta are the only two recognised, senior players who can cover that position.

The Chelsea chain of command have been scanning the market for possible solutions, but their search has so far fallen short.

Unless recalling Kenedy can be seen as a victory.

Will he be called into action immediately?

He last played for the Blues in 2018, with his only previous Premier League outing a nine-minute cameo for Newcastle United almost three years ago.

Yet, desperate times call for desperate measures.

A mantra that followers of Tuchel’s team stuck by when they called upon Kenedy to feature from the off at Brighton this evening.

Their wishes might not be met, as it’s unclear if the defender is eligible to compete in the first division yet.

But this hasn’t stopped the Blue army from dreaming.

Here’s what they had to say about the returning loanee on Twitter:

After all, the 25-year-old is certainly not the worst option in the world.

He may not be the most ideal, considering his lack of English top-flight action in the past few seasons.

However, before his spell with Flamengo, the versatile full-back pretty successfully played in La Liga for two consecutive campaigns with Getafe and then Granada.

Kenedy has also faced British opponents in that time, coming up against Manchester United in the 2020/21 Europa League quarter-final.

It’s a CV that shouldn’t strike fear into the hearts of Chelsea enthusiasts.

Who knows, the tattooed left-footer could be an unlikely hero. Oh boy do the Blues need one.
